CeraVe Moisturizer Guide: Which One Is Right for Your Skin?

CeraVe makes more than a dozen moisturisers, and in Pakistan most of them sell at a similar price. That makes the real question not which one is best, but which one suits your skin, the season and the time of day. This guide compares the CeraVe moisturisers we stock, explains cream versus lotion, and gives you a simple routine for oily, dry and sensitive skin.

Why CeraVe moisturisers work

Every CeraVe moisturiser is built around three essential ceramides (1, 3 and 6-II). Ceramides are the lipids that hold your skin barrier together, so topping them up helps your skin keep water in. Most formulas also contain hyaluronic acid to attract moisture, and CeraVe's MVE delivery system releases these ingredients slowly over the day.

The range is fragrance-free and non-comedogenic, and was developed with dermatologists. That is why it suits sensitive and acne-prone skin better than many perfumed creams.

Which CeraVe moisturiser is right for you?

Use this quick guide to match a moisturiser to your skin type and routine:

  • Moisturizing Cream: a rich cream in a tub for very dry skin on the face and body. Best at night and in winter, and a good choice for eczema-prone skin.
  • Daily Moisturizing Lotion: a lighter lotion for normal to dry skin that absorbs quickly. Good for daytime and for the body in summer.
  • PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion: a light, oil-free face lotion with niacinamide. The usual pick for oily and combination skin, morning or night.
  • AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30: a daytime face moisturiser with sun protection, for days when you want one step instead of two.
  • Skin Renewing Night Cream: a richer night cream for skin that is dry and starting to show fine lines.
  • Healing Ointment: a thick balm for cracked, very dry patches such as hands, heels, elbows and lips.

Cream or lotion: which should you choose?

The difference is texture. A cream contains more oil and less water, so it feels richer and seals moisture in for longer. A lotion is lighter and spreads easily, so it suits oily skin and humid weather.

In Pakistan, many people switch with the seasons. A lotion such as the PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion feels comfortable in the heat of June, while the Moisturizing Cream helps when the air turns cold and dry in December. Our winter routine for dry skin shows how to build a full cold-weather routine around a ceramide cream.

How to use a CeraVe moisturiser

  1. Cleanse with a gentle cleanser and pat your skin almost dry.
  2. Apply any serum first, then your moisturiser while your skin is still slightly damp.
  3. Use about a fingertip of lotion for the face and neck, or a pea-sized amount of cream.
  4. In the morning, finish with sunscreen, even if your moisturiser contains SPF and you are indoors near windows.

Not sure how much SPF you need on top? Our guide to choosing a sunscreen explains SPF, PA and how much to apply.

Simple routines with CeraVe

Oily or acne-prone skin

Morning: Foaming Facial Cleanser, then PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion, then sunscreen. Evening: the same cleanser and lotion. For more on handling shine and breakouts, see our skincare routine for oily and acne-prone skin.

Dry or sensitive skin

Morning: Hydrating Facial Cleanser, then Daily Moisturizing Lotion, then sunscreen. Evening: the same cleanser, then Moisturizing Cream.

If you are new to skincare

Start with just a cleanser, one moisturiser and a sunscreen for the first two to three weeks. Once that feels easy, you can add a serum, as described in our Korean skincare routine for beginners.

CeraVe moisturiser FAQs

Can I use CeraVe Moisturizing Cream on my face?

Yes. It is non-comedogenic and fragrance-free, so it can be used on the face and body. If you have oily skin, it may feel heavy during the day; use it at night or choose a lotion instead.

Which CeraVe moisturiser is best for oily skin?

The PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion is the lightest face option and contains niacinamide, which helps with shine. Use a small amount.

Can I use a CeraVe moisturiser every day?

Yes. They are made for twice-daily use on all skin types, including sensitive skin.

Does the AM lotion replace sunscreen?

It gives SPF 30 protection, but most people apply less moisturiser than the amount needed for the labelled SPF. If you spend time outdoors, use a separate sunscreen on top.
